About Finished
Finished is a video series looking at wood finishes and finishing techniques, written and presented by Shane Wiechnik, a furniture conservator and restorer based in Sydney, Australia.
There are so many finishes out there in the world, varying widely in materials and components, creation or manufacture, application, upkeep, and function, and it can be a headache to know where to start, or to know what's real and what's just marketing. We've created this series to help demystify finishing and give you some concrete tools and knowledge to take with you into your work and the world.
Over the course of this series we'll cover:
- Wood and optics
- Waxes
- Oils
- Resins and Spirit Varnishes
- Solvents
- Oil/Varnishes
- Synthetic Varnishes
- East Asian Lacquer
- Synthetic Lacquers
- Waterborne Finishes
- Stains, Dyes and Pigments
- Paint and Paints
- Gilding
- Carving, Marquetry, Design, and other decorative Techniques
- and likely more...
Whether you're starting out in your woodworking journey or an experienced carpenter, restorer, or other professional who works with wood finishes, we've made sure there's something for everyone in Finished, all while keeping the subject interesting and accessible.
We can't wait to share this project with you!
